Our Story
The Nutty Squirrel began with a redundancy notice, a new baby, and one embroidery machine. It grew into something much more — a family business built on handmade gifts that genuinely mean something.
Where it all began
In 2014, Sarah was made redundant while on maternity leave with her son. Rather than see it as a setback, she used the time to discover a passion she didn't know she had — creating handmade, personalised gifts.
She invested in her first embroidery machine and started small: personalised baby blankets and pet cushions, made with love at the kitchen table. Her first customers were friends, then friends of friends — and the word spread.
In 2022, the business took on a new chapter. Springbok Crafts became The Nutty Squirrel— a fresh identity with a mission to become a specialised gift shop offering truly unique items you simply won't find anywhere else.
A proper family business
The Nutty Squirrel is very much a family affair. Sarah's talented Mum has been with the business from early on — her skill and dedication have helped the range grow steadily while maintaining the handmade quality our customers love.
Every single item is made to order. We don't mass-produce. We don't hold stock of personalised items. When you order, we make it — just for you, just the way you asked.
That's what makes our gifts different. They're made by real people, in a real home workshop in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
